Coinciding with the theme of the 29th Golden Melody Awards Ceremony "Future
ING", the organizer unveiled the primary visual component of the 2018 GMA
Ceremony and International Music Festival today. The design concept this year is
"Repetition", orchestrated by the Chief Director of Young Hope Graphics Yen Po-
Chun, in association with Photographer Mr. Triangle and Visual Director Berlin
Zhang. Other than this principal poster illustrating the overall image of the event,
there will be 8 additional posters featuring a new generation of musicians, to be
unveiled in succession. "Each song is a statement, to speak up for oneself, and to
express one's attitude. To be sung by the greater audience on the other hand helps
to outline the shape of an era." Chief Visual Director Yen stated, "This time we
utilized many composite media in the design, responding to the unique
characteristics and attitudes of all 8 sets of new generation content creators with our
visual design. We also communicate with the artists over the course of the shoot as a
collaborative effort, and demonstrate the experimental nature of the moment in a
very concrete manner."
This year, the GMA visual design team invited the participation of J. Sheon, Starr
Chen, Anna, Eric Chou, Yeemao, Fang Wu, and the 28th GMA Best New Artist
winners No Party for Cao Dong and PoeTeK each possesses their unique
characteristics and the bountiful, energetic nature that comes with a new
generation. Yen observed the unique makings of the 8 and stated his design concept,
" A collage of Live House wall papers demonstrated true voice of the youth as
represented by No Party for Cao Dong; a staggering of program windows and
internet cables corresponds to J. Sheon's musical vocabulary of the internet ages;
the use of glitch art highlights the tender and melancholic atmosphere of Eric Chou's
love songs; the retro-television entertainment style from the 90s reflects perfectly
with the Yeemao's humorous and street style; Street graffiti signifies Starr Chen's
dual role as both a singer and a producer, casually weaving through the on-stage and
off-stage parts of the much industry; Anna on the other hand is transformed into a
flag-waving, toe-tipping new talent intent on conquering the world; PoeTeK
represents the conflict between academia and hip-hop, a generation that rejects any
such neat categorization. A new generation of music in truth has been with us for a
while now, they are the Future ING. It is our hope that through the visual design of
the GMA, many different music audiences would get to know more unique talents
from this new generation."
Artists participated in the shoot are all very much looking forward to this primary
visual component of the GMA. As a representative of this new music generation, J.
Sheon hoped that music could be closer to our lives, "My idea is that the words need
to be more plain, because the internet made us that much closer to everyone, so
that the audience can feel the music more. While proponent of 'been natural is the
best' Starr Chen stressed that "Be in the moment, be natural, every moment is a
challenge". Anna loves singing and dancing, "I have every confidence that people will
move with my music, I've just turned 18 this year, hoping to be a little bit sexy, and
very cool and easy going". Eric Chu believes that "Everyone may experience
emotional turmoil in life, I hope my music can become their strength. Yeemao don't
think they're the coolest or the most handsome, "We are what we are, not trying to
be part of some group, we write songs about our life experiences". Fang Wu
described how she recovered from a low in life and emotion thanks to the ocean, "I
wanna be honest with myself, and the ocean gave me that strength, to interact with
plants naturally, I wanna give back to this earth". PoeTeK wished to create
something that is entirely 'new' to refresh people's senses, "I enjoy the fact that
every song's got a plot, and it only makes sense if I sing it". The artists also took the
chance to remind the audience to follow the GMA ceremony as well as the series of
activities, and support these hardworking and dedicated artists.
The 29th Golden Melody Awards and Ceremony will be held at on 23 June at the
Taipei Arena, organizer Taiwan Television will be broadcasting live from the walk of
fame at 5pm and the ceremony at 7pm on TTV main channel. The 2018 GMA series
events will be held between 20 June and 22 June, including the GMA concert,
international forum, business exchange sessions, business trade center, exhibition,
new talent presentation, and GMA Heat.
