CEO at Modern Sky UK - Sound City

David Pichilingi has a lifetime of experience in the international music business. Over his career he started as an artist signed to RCA/BMG. For over 10 years he worked with Tony Wilson (Factory/Hacienda) on the acclaimed In The City conference and festival.
Sound City was formed in 2008 and is now the largest and most important metropolitan music festival and business conference in the UK. Annually attracting 3500 delegates/30,000 live audience.
Sound City delivers world-class festivals and music business conferences in other international territories. They also work with a number of blue chip clients in the delivery of their cultural, sport and music projects in key European and international territories.
In 2016 Modern Sky Entertainment purchased an equity stake in Sound City. Modern Sky are the largest independent entertainment company in mainland China selling over 5 million tickets per year and having an audience of over 42 million on their VOD platform Modern Sky NOW (MNOW). As part of this deal David took on the role of CEO Modern Sky UK.
Modern Sky UK has now signed over 10 bands and artists to their record and publishing division and already had their first commercial album success with Slow Readers Club. Modern Sky UK works closely with their sister companies in Beijing, New York and Berlin.
David aims to reciprocate the success of China and turn Modern Sky into a force and truly well respected global brand.

Robin MALAU

Asia-Pacific Business Development Consultant at Sound Diplomacy

Robin Malau is an Indonesian serial music entrepreneur with 20+ years of experience building award-winning music ventures. He is the recipient of British Council's “Young Creative Entrepreneur” award for his digital music aggregator startup. In another life, Robin was the guitarist for legendary hardcore band Puppen, whose song 'Atur Aku' made it to Rolling Stone magazine's “The Best Indonesian Songs Ever” list.
Robin's latest initiative is Wali Kota Musik (Mayor of Music), where he empowers governments and NGOs to use music as a tool for development. He also acts as the Deputy of Marketing for Indonesia Creative Cities Network, an association of cities and regencies with 150 members. Lately, he’s also been busy with his role as Asia-Pacific Business Development Consultant for Sound Diplomacy, a leading global advisor on growing music and night time economics.
His extra curricular includes teaching entrepreneurship in universities and speaking at international music conferences.

Johan GIJSEN

General Director and co-Founder at Le Guess Who?

According to founder and director Johan Gijsen, Dutch newspaper TROUW once described his international festival in exactly the right words, citing “Le Guess Who? is annoying and inspiring”.
Le Guess Who? is a city-wide celebration of global sounds and musical boundary-crossing. The festival offers a stage to underrepresented musicians and focuses on artists with an urge to seek and push boundaries. Not merely headliners from Western and omnipresent countries such as England and The USA, but also avant-garde innovators from Asia, protest singers of the Arab world, free jazz spirits and the front-runners in the western underground.
For four days, the festival takes over the city of Utrecht with over 180 performances set to electrify music venues, theatres, churches, galleries and warehouses. Free entrance satellite events with music, film, visual art, photography and markets appear at bars, hotels, restaurants, de Neude square and the monumental hidden corners and neighbourhoods of the city. We try to use our festival playground optimally, by applying substantive connections and strive for situations that are beneficial for everyone involved. Constructing genre-transcending programs; that is the future.
In the past Gijsen was responsible for the programming Tivoli and TivoliVredenburg (Utrecht, 2000 – 2016). Gijsen was also involved in the realization of the successful Into The Great Wide Open festival and has been voted Utrechter of the Year (of the Provence of Utrecht)
